Dubai Exchange
Dubai Crypto Exchange Landscape
Dubai has more than one regulatory perimeter. A useful exchange comparison begins with the client-serving entity and the rules that apply to its specific location and activity.
01
Dubai outside DIFC
Virtual-asset activity in Dubai’s mainland and free zones outside the Dubai International Financial Centre falls within the VARA framework. Firms may hold permissions for exchange services, broker-dealer services, custody, transfer and settlement, advisory, management and investment, lending and borrowing, or issuance-related activity. Always inspect the current public record for the exact entity and permissions.
02
DIFC is a separate financial jurisdiction
The Dubai International Financial Centre has its own regulator, the Dubai Financial Services Authority. The DFSA’s crypto-token framework applies to financial services conducted in or from DIFC. That means a firm’s location within Dubai matters; ‘regulated in Dubai’ is too broad to establish which rules, permissions, and client protections apply.
03
Marketing is not authorization
Websites, event sponsorships, social media, Arabic-language advertising, and UAE contact details can create a local impression without proving that the entity offering the account holds the relevant permission. Verify the contracting entity shown during onboarding and in the terms, then compare it with the regulator’s register and the activities listed there.
04
Execution and custody can be separate
Some users want a venue for liquid AED or stablecoin trading and then withdraw to a wallet. Others want integrated custody, institutional controls, or reporting. Review whether the platform itself provides custody, uses another licensed provider, or only supports external withdrawals. The operational chain is as important as the trading screen.
05
A Dubai-focused review process
Create a one-page record for each candidate: legal name, commercial name, regulator, licence number, permitted activities, client eligibility, AED methods, key fees, supported assets, custody arrangement, withdrawal controls, and complaints route. Recheck the register immediately before committing meaningful funds because status and permissions can change.
